Make Versus Buy: Lamington Bars
This is the second post in a new series of mine called ‘Make versus Buy’ where I share the cost difference of making versus buying your favourite store bought items. Plus you’ll get a recipe to go with each homemade version.
If you missed the first post, you can check it out here.
Today I’m looking at the Tasti Brand, Made Simple Lamington Bars. To buy a pack of these is $5.50 which works out to be $1.10 per bar whereas my homemade version works out to be 64c per bar.
Recipe notes - if you don’t have a decent food processor you can soak the dates in warm water for 15 minutes first to soften them. This will help stick the mixture together.
Ingredients are all worked out at Woolworths regular prices (dates, coconut and cacao are organic and the rest is regular), so prices may vary slightly if you purchase ingredients on sale or a different brand.
I hope you found this useful!
Let me know in the comments below if you have any requests for a ‘Make versus Buy’ post on something you currently buy but want to make instead.
