Chai Latte Premix

If you’d prefer a chai over a hot chocolate you’re going to love my DIY gut friendly chai latte mix.

A lot of the pre-mix versions you can buy are heavy on the sugar. This DIY version will save you $$ and you can adjust the sweetener to your liking.

Chai Latte Premix

Gluten free, dairy free, nut free, egg free

Makes 1 medium sized jar

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon powder

  • 4 tablespoons ginger powder

  • 2 tablespoons cardamom powder

  • 2 teaspoons clove powder

  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg powder

  • A couple of cracks of black pepper

  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar

  • 1/2 cup gelatin powder

    Optional extras:

  • Grated star anise - this is highly recommended - finely grate a star anise until you have around 1/2 to 1tsp of powder

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla powder

  • 2 tsp turmeric powder

Instructions:

  • To make a gut friendly chai latte, add 2-3 teaspoons of the mix to a mug of your favourite milk, then heat in a saucepan or thermomix.

  • Add a tablespoon of butter or coconut oil if desired to up the fat content and make it extra creamy and filling.

  • Mix up with a stick blender or blend in the thermomix at the end to make it nice and frothy and creamy.

    Notes:

  • If you want to use this for cold drinks, smoothies or to flavour baked goods use collagen instead of gelatin as gelatin needs to be heated to dissolve.

  • This is quite ‘spiced’ so if you like a milder flavour or if you’re making a hot drink for kids start with 1-2 teaspoons of the spice mix per cup of milk and adjust to taste from there.
